Your Summer Recharge: How to Build Wellness Routines That Last into the Fall

Hello, welcome to our July 2025 newsletter
We hope this message finds you breathing a little deeper and enjoying the well-deserved shift in pace that summer brings. At Thrive & Rise Academy, we believe this season is the perfect opportunity to recharge your batteries and focus on the most important person in your school or office community: YOU.
As always, you are at the center of everything we do, and the energy you brought to our community last month has been truly inspiring.
đąThe Bloom Leadership Circle is Taking Root!
To say we were inspired after our June 12th Women's Roundtable Event is an understatement! The energy was electric as leaders from across the region came together, connected authentically, and shared their vision for a new kind of leadership community. The desire for a space where women can support, empower, and learn from one another was overwhelming and clear.
We have gathered all of the incredible ideas you shared and are now deep in the planning phase of the ALL NEW Bloom Leadership Circle. We are designing a series for the 2025-2026 school year that reflects your needsâfocused on impactful speakers, tangible takeaways, and genuine connection.
Stay tuned for official registration details and dates coming late this summer! In the meantime, please forward this email to any of your colleagues or friends who you think would be interested in this kind of networking opportunity. They can join our email list by clicking here:
đWhat we are currently reading!
In "Forever Strong: A New, Science-Based Strategy for Aging Well," Dr. Gabrielle Lyon revolutionizes the way we think about health and wellness. This book is a game-changer, shifting the focus from just "losing weight" to the critical importance of muscle as the organ of longevity. Dr. Lyon provides a clear, actionable plan centered on muscle-centric medicine and optimizing protein intake to build a strong foundation for your health at any age. Itâs about being proactive, not reactive, with your wellness.
We both find this science so empowering. It provides the "why" behind the daily habits that truly fuel our bodies and minds for high performance. If you want to feel stronger, more energetic, and build a resilient body to support your resilient leadership, we highly recommend you pick up "Forever Strong" this summer!
âď¸Beyond the Bubble Bath: Wellness as a High-Performance Habit
Letâs talk about a familiar feeling for many school leaders⌠you cross the finish line in June, completely exhausted, and collapse into summer, feeling like youâre running on fumes. The first week or two is just about basic recoveryâcatching up on sleep and quieting the noise in your head.
I (Angie) certainly remember many summers starting that way. I saw my wellness as a luxury or a temporary fix to get me through the year. I would say that all summer I work out âextraâ to get me through the school year! But true wellness isn't just about recovering from burnout; itâs about building the habits that prevent it in the first place. Itâs not a reward; it's a requirement for sustained, high-performance leadership.
This summer is your opportunity to stop playing catch-up and start building proactive wellness routines that will serve you all year long. Itâs about creating a system that fuels you, so you can lead from a place of strength, not stress.
Hereâs a simple framework to help you build your wellness routines, paired with journaling prompts to guide your reflection:
The Summer Wellness Framework: "F.U.E.L."
F - Foundation First: Your body needs a solid foundation to thrive. Before adding complex routines, master the basics: quality sleep, proper nutrition (as Dr. Lyon emphasizes!), and consistent hydration. These are the non-negotiables that impact your energy, mood, and cognitive function more than anything else. Journaling Prompt: What is one foundational habit (sleep, nutrition, or water) that I can focus on improving this week? What would that look like in practice?
U - Unplug Intentionally: Your brain needs a real break. This means intentionally disconnecting from work emails, social media, and the 24/7 news cycle. Schedule time each day to be fully present, whether itâs a walk without your phone, reading a novel, or simply sitting outside. Journaling Prompt: When do I feel most mentally cluttered? I will schedule [30 minutes] of completely unplugged time at [time of day] to reset my mind.
E - Energize with Joyful Movement: Reframe exercise as something you get to do, not something you have to do. What movement brings you joy? A walk in nature, stretching, dancing in the kitchen, swimming, or playing a sport? Focus on moving your body in ways that feel good and energizing. Journaling Prompt: What form of movement made me feel happy and alive as a kid? How can I incorporate a version of that into my routine this week?
L - Listen to Your Body & Mind: As leaders, you spend your days listening to others. Summer is the time to listen to yourself. What is your body telling you it needs? More rest? More movement? More silence? Use quiet moments or journaling to check in with yourself without judgment. Journaling Prompt: If I took five quiet minutes to listen, what is my body or mind asking for right now? What is one small way I can honor that need today?
